Romantic Romance

For this blog I want you to pick a selection we have studied this week and explain the elements of Romanticism that are present in the selection. For this you will need to look at the background and notes you have taken on the Romantic Age. Tell me what piece you have chosen and make sure to cite the piece of literature in your response.

Romantics

As part of your background for this next section I want each of you to pick a romantic poet and research them. Report to me the research you did on them (this should be from more than one source). Tell me what makes them a romantic poet, then pick a poem they were known for and reflect on the poem and how it is a romantic poem.

I want to thank you for you blog responses last week. Everyone turned in very good work. I realized I need to respond more to your responses. My last question on that blog was a little ambiguous. I wanted each of you to think about the purpose of staying connected to what is happening in the world around you. Unfortunately, many people don't realize this till much later in their life. Some blame it on adolescence, but I feel that each of you is capable of going beyond yourselves and caring for those around you.

Events

For this blog I want you to discuss a current event. This can be anything you choose to talk about. What you need to do is read a few articles on the subject and report on it (quoting from the articles) and then form an opinion and develop that opinion. Can you think of why this would be relevant for you to do?

Last Week

As the group project draws (quickly) to a close I want you to discuss the piece of writing that has attracted you the most and why. How can this 200 year old material still apply to today? How is it somehow outdated? This is your chance to speak about something that has caught your attention while reading.

With one week left for the PBL I hope this will be an easy blog to respond to. I want you to discuss the satire that you have noticed in the texts studied so far. You can focus on one text or several as long as you follow the blog rubric. What is the message being delivered through satire? Do you think satire is an effective way of conveying a message? Or do you think authors should just speak plainly of their views?

First Week

As a way for each of you to evaluate were you are personally in terms of understanding the content in this unit, this reflection is relatively general. I want each of you to discuss some places in the literature were you have seen your topic represented (disasters, government, neoclassicism, etc). Remember your rubric for this blog. (Hint: You will want to refer to some quotes from the literature)

As we head in to this project I want you to reflect on some ways in which you envision yourself and your group approaching the project. This is to be a positive response (no complaints). I want you to tell what you think of some effective strategies you might want to implement in order to make this project a success. Remember to post your name.

Now that we have finished the play I want you to reflect on it. Pick two characters and discuss their personalities progression throughout the story. How did they begin, what events changed them and how did they end. What moral lessons can be learned from the end of the play?

As we are reading through Mabeth I thought I would give some questions to respond to before we finish reading.

-From what we have read, what do you think Macbeth's tragic flaw is? How has this led to his rise to power? What part do you think it will play as the story moves forward?
*Tragic flaw: A flaw in the character of the protagonist of a tragedy that brings the protagonist to ruin or sorrow.

-Describe what your initial impression of Lady Macbeth is. Point out behavior, personality, and actions which have led you to this initial impression. As we read on how do you think her personality might change?

The Blog and the Sorcerer's Stone

If you are like me, it is easy to get wrapped up in your daily life and forget that there are other people actually living outside of Abilene! As strange as it might sound, it is true. I hope each of you has at least heard something about the situation in Haiti. It has been mentioned in pretty much every TV show I have watched the last few weeks, and I have come across it numerous times on the Internet. For this blog assignment I want you to dig a little deeper. Search on the Internet and find an article that either covers the actual event or talks about the relief efforts that are going on. In your comment I want you to give me a paragraph summary of the article. In a second paragraph I want you to respond to article and tell me how you feel about the situation. At the end of your comment I want you to copy and past the link that will take me to the article you read. As always don’t forget your name if you want to receive credit.

Think of this assignment as your soapbox. This blog is a chance to give your opinion. This is your voice. Remember that your grade is based on if you are able to develop an opinion and express it.
